How the comparison works
SellWhere is not a listing tool and it does not connect to your accounts. It answers one question with arithmetic: of the eight marketplaces below, which one leaves you with the most money for this specific item at this specific price.
Identify the item
Snap a photo or type the details. The photo is read to work out what the item is, roughly what condition it is in, and which category it belongs to, so the right fee table is used from the start.
Find what it actually sells for
Completed sales decide the price, not asking prices. You get a realistic range rather than a single optimistic number, because the range is what tells you whether an item is worth listing at all.
Subtract the real costs
Each marketplace's commission, flat fees, payment processing and shipping treatment are applied to that price. The result is your net: the amount that would actually reach your bank account.
Every rate behind the calculator comes from the marketplace's own published seller documentation and is reviewed monthly. The same numbers feed the written guides, so an article can never quote a fee the tool does not use. Where a platform varies rates by category or runs a promotion, the comparison says so instead of pretending one percentage covers every sale. Full method in our editorial standards.

What the numbers mean, and what they deliberately do not claim.
Are the fee figures exact?
No, and no calculator can honestly claim they are. The numbers reflect each marketplace's published seller rates, reviewed monthly, but category, store subscriptions, promotions and tax handling all move the real amount. Treat the result as the reliable comparison it is, then confirm the current rate on the platform before you list.
How is the recommended platform chosen?
By net proceeds: item price minus commission, flat fees, payment processing and any shipping you pay for. Nothing else enters the ranking. No marketplace pays for placement, and there is no sponsored position anywhere in the results.
Why does shipping sometimes change the winner?
Two reasons. On eBay and several others the fee is charged on the shipping the buyer pays, so shipping quietly enlarges the fee base. And who buys the label differs: on Poshmark and Vinted the buyer pays shipping separately, so nothing is deducted from your side. On a heavy or bulky item those two effects can be worth more than the commission difference.
Do I need an account?
No. Every comparison runs without signing in. An account only adds saved history, so you can come back to a past comparison or keep a record of what you paid and what you expected to get.
What happens to photos I upload?
They are sent to an AI service to identify the item and estimate its value, and used for that purpose only. They are not sold, not used to train outside models, and not shown publicly. Details are in the privacy policy.
Does the tool cover local sales?
Yes. Local pickup is included as a zero-fee option, which is often the right answer for furniture, appliances and anything bulky, where shipping can swallow a quarter of the sale price.
